Baked beans. They are usually too sweet, or too salty, or too sticky, or just plain blah. So, since it’s summer and baked beans are a perfect side for a summer BBQ, I came up with my own version of some delicious, not too sweet, not too salty, perfectly bacon-ee, rich baked beans!
Here’s what you’ll need:
4 slices of bacon
1 small onion chopped
2 cans of navy beans (1 strained, the other not)
1/3 cup ketchup
2 tsp. mustard
1 tsp. apple cider vinegar
1 tsp. worcestershire
2 tsp. brown sugar
2 tsp. of BBQ sauce or Hoisin
salt and pepper (add salt later, because the bacon is already salty)
Now Do This:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Cook bacon in a saucepan until the fat is rendered out and it starts to get crispy (don’t burn it though)
Add onion and cook until softened
Add the beans and all other ingredients and incorporate (don’t smash the beans, be careful)
Transfer to a baking dish and cook for 50 minutes.
Easy, delicious and a great compliment to any BBQ!
