This recipe is the end of boring ground beef dishes! And, in keeping with the theme of easy, comfort food I have this great recipe for Salisbury Steak! My husband, who is the pickiest of all eater’s just loves it! It’s so comforting and satisfying it’s hard NOT to love!

You Will Need:

For the Meat Mixture:

1.5 lbs. ground beef
1 small onion (grated into the meat mixture)
1 egg (beaten)
1/2 cup crushed saltines (to breadcrumb consistency)
1 Tbsp. ketchup
3 tsp. dry mustard
6 dashes Worcestershire sauce
salt and pepper (to taste)
1 Tbsp. butter (unsalted)
2 Tbsp. olive oil

For the Gravy:

1 small onion (thinly sliced)
2 cups beef broth (or more if needed)
1 Tbsp. ketchup
4 dashes Worcestershire
1.5 Tbsp. cornstarch (mixed in a little extra beef broth until totally dissolved)
salt and pepper (to taste)

Now get to it…

Heat a large pan to medium high, add butter and olive oil.
Combine ground beef, egg, grated onion, your Saltine crumbs, ketchup,
Worcestershire, dry mustard, salt and pepper until incorporated.
Make 4 ovals out of the meat mixture-
(not too thick or they’ll never cook- about 3/4″ thick or so).
Fry the patties in the pan until they are brown on both sides and
to about medium rare. Transfer patties to a plate, discard all but 1 Tbsp. of the oil,
and reduce heat to medium. Add onions to the pan, sprinkle them with 1/2 Tbsp.
cornstarch and incorporate until mixed together, let cook until they are soft and
starting to carmelize…this can take about 20 minutes, be patient, it’ll be worth it!
Next up, add the ketchup, Worcestershire and beef broth to the pan.
Turn up the heat to high and let it start to thicken. Now, in a small bowl use the
remaining cornstarch with 2-3 Tbsp. beef broth and stir until dissolved.
Pour it into the pan, stir it around, and let it cook 3-4 more minutes.
Add back in your patties and flip them around in the sauce to coat and to finish cooking (about 5-7 minutes).

I’m hungry  now : )
