When you are creating a page on Facebook, it allows you to select the type of page that you would like to have.
Are you a musician or band? Are you an artist? Maybe you have a retail store with multiple locations, or a non-profit or cause in your community?
If you’re not sure what option you should pick, this article just may give you the answers you need to decide which page type is best for you!
Facebook offers 6 types of business pages (in additional to individuals pages- which you should never use for any type of business, organization or brand) in the following categories:
- Local Business or Place
- Company, Organization or Institution
- Brand or Product
- Artist, Band, Public Figure
- Cause or Community
Let’s take a look at each page and their features. This way, when you are creating a page to help grow your brand or business you can pick the most beneficial one for you needs:
LOCAL BUSINESS OR PLACE:
If you have a storefront then this is the page that you will most likely want to create. Do you have a physical location that people come to visit? Do you have a local, home based business? Then this is the page for you! Once you pick this page type you’ll be able to choose from many categories. Pick the one that best describes your business, and if none fit your business exactly, then you will pick the “Local Business” category. Try to pick a specific category though, if you can.
This page will let you include lots of information including were you are (a specific address or area), your hours and more. People will also be able to check-in when they visit your location.
This option is good for retail stores with one physical location, restaurants, professional services, home improvement stores…just to name a few.
COMPANY, ORGANIZATION OR INSTITUTION:
If your business has multiple locations or people do not visit your storefront, this is the page that may be right for you. Facebook will still let you check in from this type of page, so if you have multiple physical locations you can still do so.
With this page type you will also select from a list of categories that best fits your business. Pick the one that describes your business. If you can’t find one then simply select Company, Organization or Small Business.
This option is good things like an insurance company, a doctor, a car dealer, vacation rentals, and more.
BRAND OR PRODUCT:
Do you have products that you sell online through your website or through a re-seller like Amazon or Ebay? Again, if you choose this page type select the appropriate category. If you cannot find one that exactly matches your product or brand select Product/Service.
This is a good option for any kind of goods sold like equipment, clothes, jewelry, beverages, home goods and much more!
Choose this page type if your business is considered entertainment. Category options here will include concert tours, venues, leagues (like sports), TV shows, movies, books, or a radio station.
ARTIST, BAND OR PUBLIC FIGURE:
Do you want to promote yourself, your band or someone else… like a public figure? This type of page is used for musicians, bands, artists, writers, politicians and more.
There will be different options to more exactly pinpoint your category on this page, so pick the one that most fits. Once you pick your category here you will also be able to put even more detailed information based on the category you choose.
CAUSE AND COMMUNITY:
There are no categories to choose from when you pick this type of page, so be sure this is the page type you want. If you are a non-profit organization you can also choose the Company, Organization or Institution page. You can also find things like education and church under the Local Business or Place type.
